TG EAPCET Merit Ranking & Normalization Process

The Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) and JNTU Hyderabad prepare the final TG EAPCET Engineering Merit Rank based on normalized scores across multi-session computer-based tests:

TGCHE Normalization Formula

Because TG EAPCET is conducted in multiple shifts across several days, TGCHE normalizes scores so that no candidate is at an advantage or disadvantage due to paper difficulty variations:

Normalized Mark = GASD + [(GTA - GASD) / (STA - SASD)] × (Mark Scored - SASD)
  • 100% Entrance Score Ranking: Ranks are determined directly on the normalized TG EAPCET CBT marks out of 160 without 25% IPE weightage.
  • Qualifying Marks Requirement: OC and BC candidates must score a minimum of 40 marks out of 160 (25%) to qualify for ranking and counselling.
  • No Minimum Cutoff for SC/ST: SC and ST candidates are assigned ranks irrespective of minimum marks, provided they have valid hall tickets.

Category & Local Area Quotas in Telangana

Category Quota Seat Reservation Eligibility Criteria
Open Competition (OC) 50% (Unreserved) Open to all merit candidates irrespective of category

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How does the TG EAPCET Rank Predictor calculate my rank?
The TG EAPCET Rank Predictor calculates your estimated Telangana state merit rank and percentile by analyzing your raw/normalized score out of 160 against official TGCHE admission distributions and previous year cutoff trends from over 2.2 Lakh participating candidates. It also incorporates category multipliers (EWS, BC-A/B/C/D/E, SC, ST) and local area reservation guidelines.
Is there any Intermediate (IPE) board marks weightage in TG EAPCET 2026?
No. The Government of Telangana and TGCHE have completely removed the 25% Intermediate (IPE) board marks weightage for TG EAPCET engineering rankings. Your rank is prepared 100% purely on the normalized marks obtained in the TG EAPCET entrance examination out of 160 marks. You only need to meet the minimum qualifying aggregate criteria (45% for general, 40% for reserved) in your 10+2 board exams to be eligible for counselling.
What is the qualifying cutoff mark in TG EAPCET?
To qualify in TG EAPCET, candidates belonging to Open Competition (OC), EWS, and Backward Classes (BC-A, BC-B, BC-C, BC-D, BC-E) must secure at least 25% of the total aggregate marks, which is 40 marks out of 160. There is no minimum qualifying mark requirement for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates.
What is a good rank in TG EAPCET for CSE in top Hyderabad engineering colleges?
For top government institutions like JNTUH College of Engineering Hyderabad and University College of Engineering (Osmania University), a rank within the top 800–1,200 is generally required for Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). For premier private autonomous colleges like CBIT Gandipet, Vasavi, and VNR VJIET, a rank below 3,000–4,500 provides strong prospects for CSE, AI, and IT branches under the convenor quota.
What is the 85% Local vs 15% Non-Local seat allocation rule in Telangana?
Under the Telangana Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admissions) Order, 85% of seats in every course in colleges under the Osmania University (OU) local area are reserved exclusively for candidates who have studied in Telangana for a consecutive period of at least 4 years ending with the qualifying exam. The remaining 15% seats are unreserved and open to both local and non-local candidates on combined state merit.
How are ties resolved if two students score the same marks in TG EAPCET?
Ties are resolved using the official TGCHE sequential tie-breaker policy: (1) Higher marks scored in Mathematics in TG EAPCET, (2) Higher marks scored in Physics in TG EAPCET, (3) Higher percentage in aggregate marks in the qualifying board exam (10+2 / Intermediate), and (4) Date of birth (the older candidate is given seniority and higher rank).
