Understanding CUET UG Score Calculation & Admission Process
CUET UG (Common University Entrance Test – Undergraduate) is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC). CUET replaces individual university entrance exams and Class 12 percentage-based admissions for over 300 central, state, deemed, and private universities. Approximately 13.47 lakh candidates registered and 11.13 lakh appeared for CUET UG 2024, making it one of India’s largest undergraduate entrance examinations.
CUET UG Exam Structure & Scoring (Official – NTA)
- Section IA & IB (Languages): Attempt 40 out of 50 questions — Maximum 200 marks per language. Duration: 45 minutes per language.
- Section II (Domain-Specific Subjects): Attempt 40 out of 50 questions — Maximum 200 marks per subject. Up to 6 domain subjects. Duration: 45–60 minutes (60 min for Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Accountancy).
- Section III (General Test): Attempt 50 out of 60 questions — Maximum 250 marks. Covers GK, Current Affairs, Mental Ability, Quantitative Aptitude & Logical Reasoning. Duration: 60 minutes.
- Scores are normalized using the equi-percentile method (NTA Normalization) across multiple exam shifts for fairness.

No Centralized All India Rank: Unlike JEE or NEET, NTA does not release a centralized All India Rank for CUET UG. Each participating university independently prepares its own program-wise merit lists using the normalized NTA scores. Your score is evaluated separately for each university you apply to.

NTA Normalization — Equi-Percentile Method: Since CUET is conducted across multiple shifts with varying difficulty levels, raw marks are converted into normalized NTA scores using the equi-percentile method. All universities use these normalized scores for admission, not raw marks.

Course-Specific Subject Requirements: Each program at each university specifies which CUET subjects count toward the merit score. Eligibility: Passed or appearing in Class 12 (10+2) from a recognized board. Minimum percentage criteria vary by university and program. Generally 50% aggregate for General (45% for SC/ST). Check individual university BoI for exact eligibility criteria.

Score Formula: Raw Score = (+5 × Correct) + (−1 × Incorrect) + (0 × Unattempted). Domain/Language max: 200 marks (40 ques). General Test max: 250 marks (50 ques). NTA then normalizes raw scores across shifts using equi-percentile method.

NTA Normalization: Raw scores are normalized by NTA using the equi-percentile method across exam shifts. The resulting NTA Score (normalized) is used by all universities for merit list preparation. Class 12 marks are not included in the CUET merit score (policy varies by university).
