CMAT Percentile Formula & Top B-School Cutoffs

NTA uses the official percentile method, with inter-session normalization when CMAT is held across multiple sessions:

Official NTA CMAT Percentile Formula

The CMAT Percentile Score is calculated by NTA using:

Percentile = (100 × N≤) / N_total
  • N≤: Number of candidates who scored equal to or less than your raw score in the session.
  • N_total: Total candidates who appeared in that session.
  • Marking Scheme: +4 correct, −1 wrong, 0 unattempted. Max = 400.
  • CMAT 2024 Stats: 65,127 appeared out of 76,745 registered (May 15, 2024; NTA/Shiksha data).
Official Source: exams.nta.ac.in/CMAT (NTA). NTA does not release an official score-to-percentile conversion table; percentiles are calculated individually from the final candidate distribution.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How is CMAT Percentile calculated by NTA?
NTA calculates CMAT Percentile using: Percentile = (100 × Number of candidates with raw score ≤ yours) / Total candidates in the session. Raw score uses +4 for correct and −1 for incorrect answers. If CMAT is conducted in multiple sessions, NTA applies inter-session normalization. Your official NTA scorecard displays your raw score, percentile, and AIR.
What CMAT percentile is needed for JBIMS Mumbai or SIMSREE?
JBIMS Mumbai typically requires 99.99+ percentile for Maharashtra domicile (MMS program). SIMSREE Mumbai requires approximately 99.96+ percentile. PUMBA Pune requires 96–99 percentile. KJ Somaiya requires approximately 97–98 percentile. These are General (UR) category cutoffs — reserved category candidates may get admission at lower percentiles. (Source: Shiksha, CollegeDunia, AskMBA 2024 data)
What is the difference between CMAT Raw Score, Percentile, and AIR?
Raw Score is your actual marks out of 400 (+4 correct, −1 wrong). Percentile (0–100) is a relative ranking — the percentage of candidates who scored equal to or less than you. It is NOT a percentage of marks. AIR (All India Rank) is your rank among all candidates derived from your percentile. NTA publishes all three on your official CMAT scorecard.
Is there negative marking in CMAT 2026?
Yes. CMAT 2026 has −1 mark per incorrect answer, +4 for correct, and 0 for unattempted. Maximum score = 400. Unlike MHT CET (no negative marking), CMAT requires strategic question-selection — accuracy is more important than attempting all questions.
How many students appear for CMAT?
CMAT 2024 had 76,745 registered candidates and 65,127 actually appeared (held May 15, 2024; Source: NTA via Shiksha/CollegeDunia). This is significantly smaller than CAT (~3.3 lakh) or JEE Main (~12 lakh), meaning a high percentile can be achieved at a lower raw score compared to larger-pool exams.
Does CMAT score get accepted by IIMs?
No, IIMs do not accept CMAT scores. IIM admissions use CAT. CMAT is accepted by 1,000+ AICTE-approved MBA/PGDM institutes including JBIMS, SIMSREE, PUMBA, KJ Somaiya, BIMTECH, WeSchool, Great Lakes, IMT Nagpur/Hyderabad, IFMR GSB, and N.L. Dalmia. Maharashtra state institutes admit via DTE Maharashtra using CMAT scores for state domicile candidates.
How accurate is this CMAT Percentile Predictor?
This predictor estimates your CMAT percentile using historical NTA CMAT data (2022–2024), actual candidate distribution from ~65,127 candidates (CMAT 2024), and analyses from MBAUniverse, Cracku, and CollegeDunia. Since NTA does not release an official score-to-percentile table, all predictors (including this one) are estimates. Always verify at your official NTA scorecard: exams.nta.ac.in/CMAT.
