KEA 50:50 Composite Merit Rank Formula Explained

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) computes the final KCET Engineering Merit Rank by giving equal 50% weightage to the entrance examination and the qualifying board theory exam:

KEA Official Merit Formula

KEA converts both examination scores into a uniform 100-point composite score:

Composite Score = [(KCET PCM Marks / 180) × 50] + [(2nd PUC PCM Marks / 300) × 50]
  • KCET Exam Weightage (50%): Calculated on total marks scored in Physics (60), Chemistry (60), and Mathematics (60), i.e., out of 180 marks.
  • 2nd PUC / 12th Board Weightage (50%): Calculated on marks scored in Physics (100), Chemistry (100), and Mathematics (100), i.e., out of 300 marks.
  • CBSE / CISCE Board Verification: Students from non-PUC boards have their PCM percentage normalized to 50 marks identically.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How is the KCET Rank Predictor helpful for KEA Karnataka Admissions?
The KCET Rank Predictor accurately calculates your estimated KEA Karnataka Engineering Merit Rank and composite score by simulating official KEA admission rules (50% KCET marks out of 180 + 50% 2nd PUC / 12th Board PCM marks out of 300). It gives you an accurate forecast of your All Karnataka General Merit Rank and Category Rank before official results are announced.
What is the official 50:50 formula used to calculate KCET Engineering Rank?
According to KEA guidelines, the composite merit score is calculated as:
Composite Score (out of 100) = [(KCET PCM Marks / 180) × 50] + [(2nd PUC PCM Marks / 300) × 50].
This equal weighting ensures both entrance performance and academic board fundamentals contribute equally to the final engineering rank list.
What is considered a good rank in KCET 2026 for top Bangalore colleges?
A KCET Rank below 1,000 (Composite Score 92+) is an elite score securing CSE / AI in RVCE, BMSCE, and PES University. A rank between 1,000 and 5,000 provides high admission probability for CSE, ISE, and ECE in MSRIT, UVCE Bangalore, BIT Bangalore, and Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering (DSCE).
What is the Supernumerary Quota (SNQ) in KCET?
SNQ offers 5% supernumerary seats in every engineering college where tuition fees are completely waived (100% free tuition) for deserving candidates whose family annual income is below Rs. 8 Lakhs. The allocation is made purely in order of merit.
What is the Hyderabad-Karnataka (Article 371J) reservation in KCET?
Under Article 371J of the Constitution, candidates from the 6 Kalyan-Karnataka districts (Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal, and Ballari/Vijayanagara) get 70% to 80% regional seat reservation in local institutions and 8% statewide reservation in all other Karnataka colleges.
How is tie-breaking done when two candidates have the same KCET composite score?
In case of a tie in composite score, KEA resolves the rank through sequential criteria: (1) Higher marks in KCET Mathematics, (2) Higher marks in KCET Physics, (3) Higher marks in KCET Chemistry, (4) Higher marks in 2nd PUC Mathematics, (5) Higher marks in 2nd PUC Physics, (6) Higher marks in 2nd PUC Chemistry, and (7) Date of birth (older candidate gets higher rank).
